CD BAckup

    if i backup my HD onto a CD and then run my Quick Restore CD can i get all my files back that i created by using my backup Cd afterwards?

    Yes. Just copy them off the cd to the folder of your choice. There are a few exceptions to this though. One of them is if you use outlook express or outlook you'll have to use the import messages feature they come with. If you just copy them back to the mail folder they won't show up in the mail program.

    reply to cd backup

    about how many CDs would it take to backup a 10gb HD? the CDs are 700mb each.

    What are you planning to backup and how are you planning to do so?

    Wanting to back up 10GB of information sounds like you want to backup the entire hard drive; data files, programs, installation files etc.

    The only files you need to backup are the data files and maybe the installation files for programs, drivers etc. that you've downloaded. Backing up the programs and Windows won't be of any real use, the programs and Windows will have to be reinstalled anyway.

    Copy the data files you want to keep to CD disk. Run the restore process. Copy the files back to the hard drive from the CD disk. Note that when a file is copied from a CD to the hard drive the file has the Read Only attribute assigned to it. You'll want to remove the Read Only attribute from the file so you can modify it later - right click on the file(s), select Properties, take the check mark out of Read Only and click OK.
