Here's the scenario. My wife's new Dell computer (XPS420) came with Windows Live Mail (as did y new computer... I have the same system). Both came with McAfee. She can receive e-mail without any problems and even send one sentence Replies or one sentence new messages BUT anything larger than that is blocked with the following message: Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Subject message, account pop.charter.net server smtp.charte.net, protocol SMTP, Port 25, Secure "SSL "Error #0X800CC0F

Areas of confusion: I can send e-mail without any issues. I am using an identical computer with McAfee as well. We are networked together and naturally using the same ISP. So I can't see this an an ISP issue.

Any ideas to resolve this issue would be appreciated.

Unfortunately don’t use either MacAfee or Live Mail.
Hopefully someone that does will quickly respond.

In the meantime somewhere in Live Mail will be a setting for - server timeouts "“ increase the number.
Also "“ if MacAfee is scanning outgoing mail temporally disable function to see if problem is there.

Tried both as well as changed Port and none worked.

    Okay... how about this:

We have three computers networked to a router. My wife's desktop, the computer that will not send e-mail, is hardwired to the router. Her laptop is wirelessly connected and my computer is wirelessly connected. All three are Dell XPS computers... and both my computer and her laptop have no issues sending e-mail. My computer uses McAfee and Windows Live mail without issues... her laptop uses Trend Micro and Windows Live mail without issues. So... since both of these are wirelessly connected, what about making her desktop (currently hardwired), wireless as well? We have that ability. Would it help?

Outside of Windows Live outgoing mail setup or MacAfee can’t think of anything.
Try setting up another dummy account on miscreant computer watching out for typo bugs n try again.

Can’t imagine anything in a router that’d block something from only a wired connection.
Wired or wireless is just how connected to router if can connect to internet should be able to send mail even if rest of LAN settings are wrong.

I thought Live Mail was a beta product!

If you mean Windows Mail, this link specifies the Outbox but it works for the other mail boxes as well http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090 You may still have to delete the stuck message after applying the fix. Remember where the fix is as you may need it again.

You're right... it's Windows Mail (not Live Mail). I'll check these two links you both provided. Thanks for the help.

Read through both articles. Here is something I failed to add last evening. I had my wife download and install Mozilla Thunderbird. Again... she could receive mail... send mail of one line but anything greater stopped her in her tracks. So it's obviously not an issue with Windows Mail nor with her connectivity. AND given the fact that I can send mail and she can as well on her laptop, it's obviously not an ISP issue. It sounds to me like it is an issue with the manner in which she connects to the router OR her copy of McAfee.

Update. Problem resolved. I disconnected the cable, set up a wireless device so that all three of our computers are now wirelessly connected (the problematic computer had been hardwired to the router) and low and behold... she can now send and receive email. Not sure why it worked but it worked. So... it was NOT a McAfee issue, not a Dell problem, not a Vista problem... but somehow a Linksys issue.

Indeed, but I'm not going to fight it. It worked for some weird reason. Microsoft, Dell, Charter and McAfee technicians did not see this as even a remote possibility; even when I suggested it might be an outside shot. I felt it might be possible, although unlikely, that the router had some kind of blocking for the wired connection that it didn't have for the wireless and it appears to have been the case. Anyway... just wanted to update those who tried to help us. :)

I would be poking around in the routers settings to find what it is though

Your wired problem may be a hardware error.

If you have another router you could borrow / use that allows you to hard wire connect, I would try that.

If the problem persists with the new router I haven't a clue. If it doesn't, you may well have a hardware error.

Another thing to try is swapping the ethernet cable for another one and see if that works.

I had an intermittent connection problem with a wireless router and it proved to be hardware.
