    win2k pro with NTFS & mozilla 1.2.1. Mozilla has been working fine until I changed the security settings of C:/(system drive). Now I can't save mozilla's preferences. The weird thing is:

    1. I can save IE6 settings easily.

    2. I can save /delete files in the mozilla directory easily.

    The security settings of drive C:/ currently is:

    administrators = full permission
    system = full permission
    creators-owners = full permission
    power-users = change
    users = read

    I don't remember the origianl settings.

    This is only me thinking aloud because I have never used Mozilla, but I think the answer is in your original question. Somehow, mozilla is trying to write to "Read only ", either because you are logged on in the users group or mozilla does something as a "user ". I would try changing the permissions to "change" for users and see if that cures it. If that doesn't work, change permissons to full control for everyone and everything, and reduce the permissions until it stops working so that you know what was causing it.

    hope this helps

    Try logging on as an administrator and taking ownership of the folder where the browser files reside.
