When trying to open Ms Paint I get message that it is ausing a problem with mfc42.dll. I have been using Win 98 SE and could not get it to run. Then I upgraded to Windows ME and still no go .
I have deleted and reinstalled my printer. Still no go . IF I download latest mfc42.dll how do i replace the existing file with the download as the system says I can't because it is in use. Help WILL be greatly appreciated.

    grant154--Perhaps help here
    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=185501
    http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&q=MSPaint+mfc42.dll
Or if they do not help, you could try to extract a new copy of mfc42.dll using System File Checker.
    http://support.earthlink.net/mu/1/psc/img/walkthroughs/windows_9x_nt/browsers/ie_5.0/5296.psc.html
(You would, of course, be extracting mfc42.dll--not rasapi.dll which is the file used in the example.)
Note that you will be restoring from either your Win98 CD or from C:\Windows\Options\Cabs depending on whether you got a full WinCD or the OEM version. And you will restore to C:\Windows\System32.
I hate to say it, but what you have done so far may just have made a fix more difficult.
If all this started in the last four days, you might try Start|Shut Down|Start at MS-Dos Prompt|OK|type scanreg /restore|Enter|Choose a date before the problems started|Enter|Wait|Reboot.
