I've got my hands on a friend's computer. It has ME, and I think it's an update from 98. (not a clean ME install)
I don't know if this was happening before ME (with 98) or not but know it is happening now with ME.
I've searched Yahoo, Google and here before asking...

I can not right click on the taskbar to select toolbars or properties or anything. Right click shows nothing. I can however right click a program running in the taskbar and select close or resotre...

Any ideas what's going on here?

Look in Control Panel to see if they have TweakUI installed. If so, look in the My Computer section of Tweakui and place a check mark on ALL drives.

    Steve,

TweakUI does not appear to be installed. I checked physically for 'left-over' files just incase the CPL got deleted in the upgrade from 98 to ME. They don't appear to be on the drive. Should I install it and see what happens?
(Is there a version for ME on that CD or will the 98 version work?)

Right click on the Start button. If Explore is grayed out then I'd say that it's got the Tweakui bug. Sure wouldn't hurt to install the 98 version...

    Steve,

I should have noted earlier...can not right click START either!

    Welshjim,

Thanks for the attempt, but I don't believe that'll work. As stated, I can't right click the taskbar. Properties doesn't display...the menu doesn't display.

It doesn't get used much, right clicking the taskbar, but I'd like to access it so I can select Toolbars as the Quick Launch isn't displayed on the taskbar.

What exactly is the Tweak bug? (Seeing you mention Explore greyed out)
I ask because I received the computer after they tried to remove ME and allow 98 to run again. All the computer would do was boot to an error with Explorer causing an invalid page fault. I tried every suggestion concerning Internet Explorer being the cause and nothing worked. I ended up installing ME back over 98 and the computer boots...all's well but right click of the taskbar.

I will try 98 version of TweakUI and see what happens...

Joe, the TweakUI bug is just one of those "known issues" that unchecking the drives in the My PC section causes problems like you are having.

    Welshjim...I APOLOGIZE!
I was just clicking around and DID FIND right click option to be UNCHECKED.
I checked it and all is fine!

    GREAT!
