I have 2 machines running win XP. I can't get them to talk. I've tried pinging each other. One machine is 192.168.1.101 and it seems to work fine but times out pinging the other. The other is 192.168.1.103 and it won't work. I tried pinging itself and it times out. I tried pinging 127.0.0.1 and it worked fine. Where is the problem then?

It looks like a problem with TCP/IP. There is a utility you can use to reset TCP/IP on XP, but I can't remember it off the top of my head. It has been suggested in other threads, so search for similar problems on this site should get you to it.

However, before you do try resetting TCP/IP, the problem could be your settings or a firewall issue. First what subnet mask have you set. If it is invalid that might cause the problem. Also do you have a personal firewall set up or the XP firewall?
