Just purchased a new Acer Aspire 3 AC315 Laptop. My setup went great and for few a days or so everything was working fine, Then I got a screen message that told me that windows 10 had updates waiting, but I needed to run an upgrade to Windows 10 first. So I did and looked okay to me, but when the computer restarted and got to my logon screen my Microsoft password that I had used several times after my original set up didn't work. I went to advance options and tried a restore, but I need to logon to used it. I then did a factory reset, saving data and personal files, but that didn't buy me anything. As luck would have it I hadn't gotten around to doing any system or password reset backups. I have burned my eyes out searching for a solution to this logon issue and then I remembered you guys and thought I would share my logon problem here for a possible solution or work around. What happen to the days when you could completion restore your system totally from the internal Hard Drive and just start over. Help!

    Interesting question.

Surely, all recent, (within the last couple of years), models will have had Windows 10 pre-installed, so why the need to upgrade?

Probably a good idea to contact your supplier in the first instance.

Yes indeed. But given that you have a brand new computer, and the message you report, then hopefully the supplier will have a good explanation! At the very least you would expect some form of helpful customer service, although, these days, that does seem to be something of a rarity.

I agree to contact the supplier. As OEM/System Builder providers, they are required to provide 1 year of Windows tech support.

As to the need to upgrade, it should be noted drives are imaged at the factory, perhaps weeks or longer before the computer leaves the factory. Then the computer sits in distribution centers and on store shelves, perhaps months before being sold.

In the meantime, Microsoft is continuously improving and updating Windows 10. For example, the huge Fall Creators Update was released in September - perhaps after your disk was imaged. And there have been several security updates released since then too.

I have contacted the suppliers and have voice my concerns, but in the meantime I am still stick with a non working laptop. Does anyone have any how I can get around the logon issue. I read somewhere something about a hidden Administrator Account. Is this a possible work around to get back into the laptop?

The Elvis Presley song says it all - "Return to Seller" (sender).

Sorry about that. Didn't know that. Ok you guys can't directly help me with the my logon issue, but do you know a source that can help me, like maybe Microsoft or another legal source. I got one more things to try and then I will be returning it to the Seller, if it fails.

    Thanks, Bob
