Does anyone know how I can delete 2 icons on my desktop?? Unfortunately I renamed them and I'm sure that's where I made a mistake and why I can't delete them. I also can't rename them again.

One is a website. It now says AIG Ins. When I go to rename it I get "Cannot rename file: Cannot read from the source file or disk." When I go to delete it I get "Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk. "

The second icon and the one I really wish to delete because it's huge is a file. It now says Tigers clincher.exe. When I go to rename it I get "If you change a file name extension, the file may become unusable. Are you sure you want to change it?" I select yes and then I get "Cannot rename Tigers clincher. It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again." I have no windows open and I still get that message. When I go to delete it I get "Cannot delete Tigers clincher. It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again." Again I have no windows open and still get that message. This Tigers clincher.exe icon was a video. I think the extension was .w4v. My son told me to try putting .exe in and that's when I couldn't get rid of it.

I went to system restore to resore it back, before I put these icons on, but for some reason it tells me it can't restore it to the date I picked. I tried different dates a few times and get the same outcome.

    Thank you in advance.....Ron

    Hello Ron,

That's what you get on rename.

First, have you re booted since this happened? If not, do that and try.

    If that doesn't work:
Try it in Safe Mode. Boot up hitting the F8 key and delete, than reboot normally.

If the file still won't delete - Use Move On Boot, download from here: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/moveonboot.html to delete it. It will add a new item to your right click Context Menu, target that file with Move on Boot, and then reboot.

    Regards - Charles

Thanks Charles. I downloaded that Move on Boot and it worked for the one I definitely wanted to remove. However for some reason it didn't work for the AIG Ins. icon......Thanks again......Ron
