Hi All, This is my first post, so here goes. When I try to access something in the control panel window, my computer just seems to lock up. Anything I try to do seems to result in a not responding message. Any one have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Dave

Make sure your anti-virus is up to date and scan for viruses. Also run SpyBot S&D and AdAware SE to scan for other malware.

You could also try accessing Control Panel in Safe Mode. Maybe a running program is causing the freeze up.

Hello David and welcome to the Board,

Download HijackThis from here http://radiosplace.com/ latest version 1.99

Download it to it's own folder, for example C:\HijackThis

Unzip (double click on zipped folder)

    Click on the execute
    click on scan button
click save log and save to the folder you just created
copy resultant .txt file and paste into your next post.

    Regards - Charles

It could be just a corrupt .cpl file of some type. Try doing a search for "*.cpl" (without the quotes) . When it finds them, rename them one at a time and try opening the control panel each time you rename one. If you rename one and the control panel opens after that, you've found the problem.
