Cannot format drive c:

    In order to attempt to overcome ongoing problems, I have removed all my relevant needed files and attempted to re-format my C: drive which contains just the WIN XP Pro files and other things that I dont need and start from scratch reloading XP. When I tried to format I got the message "Format cannot run, volume in use by another process ".
    On advice, I downloaded a DOS boot disk (6.22) and tried to run format but got the message that it couldn't find c:.
    How on earth can I now re-format my C:\ Drive?

    You cannot format a drive from within that drive - it must be done from outside :)

    Follow the instructions below - I assume you have a full copy of XP - not a Recovery CD, although that would do just as well in these circumstances ....

    Thanks Pete hit the nail on the head just re-installed XP. One of the old problems still persists

    Thanks for the advice Pete - Mattman has just sorted out my other problem my thanks and admiration for the skills of WBBS - "I am not worthy "!!
