    Hi,
    I was given an IBM Thinkpad Laptop that has Windows Xp...After several things were done, maintenance, etc it's running exceptionally well..However,I cannot seem to get it up and running wireless...I have done this before but this laptop is the first one that I have encountered that shows no wireless connections...I checked Device Manager and Network connections and can't seem to find it listed under Network Adapters or even other devices...When I run the Wireless Network Setup thru the control panel it says it was done successfully... I disabled the firewalls and virus protections and that did not help...I am at a loss and would appreciate any assistance...Thank you

    If Device manager shows no wireless adapter then you have no wireless adapter installed! The adapter software and drivers may be installed but if Device Manager does not list it then the hardware itself may be bad, or if a pcmcia adapter then the pcmcia slot may be bad.

    Hi,
    Thank you for your help...After I read your reply, I went and installed a wireless adapter (with range booster) and I now am able to connect to the Internet...

    take out the tcip
    let it reboot and reinstall
    make sure in the services.msc that the windows wireless utility is not disabled.
    Is the wireless router broadcasting ?
    The broadcast may be turned off.
    The newer router setups disable the beacon by default.
    Install netstumbler to see if it even finds the card and finds any signals.
    Just some ideas
    Also the router many be set wrong for you.
    For example you may have a b card and the router is set to "g only "

    Hi,
    Once again thank you...I had three computers hooked up to this router and not too long ago I set up another laptop to work wireless off of the same router so I'm not sure the router would be my issue...Since I installed the wireless adapter now, I'll leave well enough alone and if any similiar situations arise that are similiar in the future with other laptops, I will try and keep your suggestions in mind...I'm sure as I dip into this area of computers I will be back for some more assistance...
