My machine is Intel Core i5-3470 CPU @ 3.20GHz, 8,0GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics MS Windows 7 Home Premium v. 6.1 64-bit SP1
I have Kaspersky Internet Security 2014, and I have Google Talk, Skype, and Memeo Backup Premium Pro running in the background.

I have been having endless problems with applications seizing up - the show a message to the effect that "xxxxxx is not responding ". After a hard boot, W7 decided to do a "Startup Repair " which did nothing useful for 20 minutes then told me that it could not repair the system automatically, and sent off a message to Microsoft in response to which I expect absolutely nothing.

I decided to do a "Repair Install " following the instructions at http://www.sevenforums.com/3413-repair-install.html

I inserted my disc and all that came up in Windows Explorer was this README.TXT:

This disc contains a "UDF" file system and requires an operating system
that supports the ISO-13346 "UDF" file system specification.

What is wrong and how do I fix it?
    Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion but I have a 64-bit system and already have WinRAR 5.10 beta 2 (64-bit) installed.

    That's 100% counterfeit!

Genuine Microsoft software will say "Made in Puerto Rico ", while the counterfeits will say "Made in USA" or (such as your case) "Made in Singapore ".

Well, they did a pretty good job on the hologram decorations round the bore and the rim. In any case, I have always thought that pirate copies were just copies that Microsoft didn't get paid for. Still copies, and should behave like the original. I mean, people don't copy them by hand allowing human error to creep in.

I shall have to have a little talk to my supplier.

Anyway, be that as it may, Is a Repair Install possible, and, if so, how do I do it?

The sticker looks like it may be valid, but it's the DVD that's the problem.

And it's going to be hard to tell from a pic because you can't tilt it to see the holograms change.

Will the computer boot from the DVD? If not, it's probably not a genuine Microsoft Windows 7 DVD.

The holograms are just around the bore, and just around the rim.

The rim hologram contains two sets of 'X17-03588' and 'Genuine', one set readable from the label side and one from the other.

    The bore holograms:
Right next to the bore, readable from the label side the 'Windows Name and Logo'
Just inside the label, 'IFPL25' and 'X17-58399', 'DP-4K', and '1K' all readable from data side.

These writings do no change if you tilt the disc.

As I said above, we can't tell from here. (To see the hologram effect you need to ber able to tilt the disc).

The page I linked to above does say there should be an area that shows "Genuine" changing to the word "Microsoft" as you slightly tilt the disc from left to right.

Here, I'll try to quote the section of that page. You'll have to click the image links though because we are not allowed to embed pictures on this site.

    Microsoft.com > Piracy > How to Tell

And again, will the computer boot from that disc?

The word 'genuine' changes to 'Microsoft' as I tilt the disc from left to right.

The disc has the aligned arrows on the inner and outer band.

Shut down computer --> inserted disc --> restarted --> booted from disc --> boot okay --> selected 'Repair your computer' --> selected 'Startup Repair' --> 'Could not detect a problem'.

Excellent, sounds like the disc is legit. :)

The 13346 UDF error "can occur if third-party DVD movie players or DVD disc creating programs, such as Roxio, InterVideo Launcher or Nero 7 interfere with the reading of the Windows discs. Third-party DVD movie players or DVD disc creating programs may prevent the UDF volume reader from functioning as expected.

To resolve this issue, remove the third-party burning program from the computer.

I have, and use frequently (including now) MAGIX Movie Edit Pro, MAGIX Video Easy, and AVS Video Converter. When you talk about 3rd party movie players, no-one gets away without having Applian FLV, Real Player and QuickTime on their system. I must be doomed! :(
