When I open up IE and click on Tools and go to Internet Options, a box opens up and it says:

This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.

I know that I can get to Internet Options by going through the control panel but I would like to find out what put a restriction on my computer and how to get it off. My ISP told me that it was probably a software that was installed that did it. But I didn't install any new software. Plus I am the only one that uses this computer. I don't have any grandkids here to use it nor does my husband use my computer. I am at a loss. If anyone has a solution, please email me and remember that I need step by step instructions.

    Thanks so much in advance.

Do you have Spybot installed? If so, there is an option in the "Immunize" section of Spybot to prohibit changes to IE's Internet Options. That's to keep web sites from hijacking your home page but it also effectively keeps you from changing anything as well.

If you do have Spybot, open it, go to "Immunize" and look way at the bottom of the right-hand pane for options referring to Internet Explorer. Uncheck the appropriate ones and Internet Options should be available to you again.

Thanks for the info and yes I have Spybot installed. I unchecked all three of those boxes but that doesn't seem to fix the problem. Maybe I have to reboot in order to have the settings take place. I will try that. Alberta
