I installed a program called 'FreeRam XP Pro' yesterday and its icon was duly added to my taskbar. The icon is useful because it tells me at all times how much RAM I'm using. However, when I started my computer today I noticed that an icon for a program called K9 (a wonderful free anti-spam program) was missing even though the program works as efficiently as ever. Does the taskbar only accommodate a set number of icons (I have 12  which includes the clock) or can it be widened? I've added a shortcut to K9 to my desktop which still makes it accessable, but I'd prefer it to be on my tasbar where it flashes as it checks my emails. I thank you, folks.

I'm not aware of a limitation on the no. of icons in the notification area.

    Three things to try .....

Right click Taskbar > uncheck Lock the Taskbar > check Lock the Taskbar.

Right click Taskbar > Properties > Is 'Hide inactive icons' checked? If so Customise and work through those you wish to see regardless or uncheck 'Hide inactive icons'

Unlock the Taskbar, position your mouse on the top edge - cursor changes to double ended arrow - click and drag upwards to increase depth. Then Lock the Taskbar again.

  3. to hide this advert.

    Hi Lugwalker,

I think you're about the Notification Area.

You can pull the task bar + NA up, making it double the hight: hover the mouse over the top edge until the double arrow appears and then pull up.

    Regards - Charles

Thanks for the tips, gents. I've followed your suggested procedures and increased the size of the task bar but, alas, my K9 icon (despite the 'hide inactive icons' box being unchecked) is not to be found. Disappeared! As you can appreciate it's not a problem. I just got used to seeing the K9 flashing icon as it went about its work. Maybe it'll return when I boot up again tomorrow. If so then you'll be the first to know. Much obliged ;)

When I started my computer about a week ago, lo and behold, the missing icon had returned to the taskbar..... and has remained there ever since. Thank you for all your assistance. :)
