Can not locate scanner

    A friend has a Compaq Deskpro, 666Mhz CPU, 128MB Ram, 10 Gig HD, Win98SE. He has a CANON CANOSCAN FS2710 which worked in the past. Now, every effort to operate it has produced a message "Can not locate scanner." The power light blinks constantly. He has checked the SCSI card and it shows up in Device manager as well as the Adaptec controller. He has downloaded drivers from Canon to no avail. Canon support has been no help. Any ideas, anyone?

    If you do not have the installation instructions plus user's guide go here and download it. This is the same page you download the driver from. On page 113 it has things to try if you get the error scanner not detected.
