I'm running Win2k SP3 with a NEC FE991SB 19in CRT calibrated with a Colorvision Spyder for image work. As you know, ordinary screen work does not require the brilliance of image work, and things like reading mail and my lists are hard on my eyes.

Now, the Spyder sets the calibrated monitor profile as the default. I wonder if there' s a way to reduce the intensity of the illumination without touching the r-g-b guns. I just want to substitute a low(er) contrast/brite screen using the mouse or keyboard, then return to the calibrated profile, again with a keystroke or two.

The hard controls on the monitor will of course let me do this, but they are awkward and slow, and the **** NEC/Mitsubishi software download supposed to make it easy, fails on loading. If I make a monitor profile easier on the eyes, does Win2k provide a loading/unloading procedure for monitor profiles?

Right-click a blank spot on the desktop. In the Display Properties pop-up, select the "Settings" tab at the top right then the advanced button and the Color Management tab.

You can set up multiple monitor profiles and switch between them.

    Thanks, Newt, but ...

... the procedure requires a file. That is, if I turn the contrast down using the hard controls on the monitor, How do I make a monitor profile FILE out of the setting?

I'm not sure. At this point, I think this may do better as a hardware topic so I'll move it there.

If no good answer within a day or two, I'll search around but hopefully someone will know an answer for you.
