    WinXP Home,
    FF 1.5.0.5

    Installed FF 1.5.0.5 today.

Normally after a web session, using FF, i will run some utilities to cleanup
    the PC.

So, after i closed FF i ran CCleaner and it told me that i needed to close
the FF cache before it could clean it. I saw no indication of FF running.
    control>ALT>Delete showed nothing running.

After a reboot, ccleaner ran normally.

Is this a bug? Anyone else had this happen?

    thanks,
    savagcl

    Hi Clif,

I'd not heard of CCleaner before reading your post, but I can see how it might be a handy app.

If you're really concerned about your FF cache, you can always clear it before closing FF, using the Clear Cache Now button on the Cache tab in Options > Privacy.

Conversely, if you have a fast internet connection, such as cable, you may not need a cache at all. If you set the cache space to 0 MB on the Cache tab, you can delete your cache folder and it will not be re-created. I have a cable connection, and have found that operating with no cache (as I do now) is no slower than operating with a cache.

    Hello Jim,

Yes, I like CCleaner, does a good job. I have a whole list of utilities i run
at least daily. Specially after a web session. It only takes a few minutes
and does a pretty good job of cleaning out the junk files.

I am on cable (comcast) but dont mind having a cache plus i have
fasterfox and prefbar that will clean out the cache. Problem was not
the cleaning of the cache but closing the cache after shuting dow FF.

Like i said, its only happened once and that after the latest upgrade
1.5.0.5 so maybe it was just getting settled in.......

    thanks,
    savagcl

It happened to me a few updates ago, when I had, apparently, closed FF, only once. Actually, FF should clean up the Cache on closing, but, invariably Ccleaner finds something. At this point, I have three active FF profiles which are set to clean up Cache on closing. One is in use, one is clean, and the third one is not.
I will have to checks if the Cache is empty, or go Jim's way. I, also, have Cable, and Cache is dispensable. Thanks for the reminder, Jim.
    Use Ccleaner pretty regularly.
Note: I, actually, have four profiles, one each for FF1.0.8, 1.5.0.5, 2,0b1, and 3.0a1.
1.0.8 does not have the otion to clear Cache, automatically. 1.5.0.5, and 2.0b1 work flawlessly. But, I think that I found a bug in 3.0a1. I guess that they cannot leave good things, which work, alone. Some changes were made, and it appears that the box to ask for permission to empty on exit, becomes checked, even after unchecking, and it causes some problems with autoupdates, if unchecked. 3.0 is long way into the future, but it is interesting to look at the developement.
