    Running Windows 7 64 bit.
All has been normal up to now burning CDs for myself and friends, but in the last week the burners have started burning CDs that won't play on my second computer or the domestic CD player, but play on the burning machine.
My laptop says 'The file has an extension that Windows can not recognise', but the individual files will play on a double click. The CD player just says 'No disk'.

I have tried both of my DVD RW decks, and burnt MP3, wav, and wma files.
Confusingly, one or two of the CDs will play in the car but nowhere else.

Any suggestions will be gratefully received,

    Roger:mad:

    Hi Steve.

No, I didn't change the make of media before the problem started, but I have tried another brand since. My usual brand was Verbatim RW and I changed to Maxell R. No Luck.

    Hi All,
Sorry for the delayed reply, I took a day off to update my machine a bit.

The original failed burns were carried out in Windows 7 using the built in software, then I tried a couple of times using Imgburn but with no improvement. What really confused me was that two CDs that wouldn't play on my domestic player worked OK in my car!

Thanks to you though Broni - Cdburnerxp worked perfectly first time, and I can burn usable music CDs.

    I'm glad it worked.
I had similar experience with Vista's built-in DVD burning software.
One day, out of the blue, it simply refused to work.
