Wierd one, my daughter, back from uni, went to print on the Brother laser. Got BSOD. Transferred to canon inkjet on usb, all fine. Back to laser and insert usb lead and BSOD. Changed lead, same again. Dell 530 and 30gig hd very nearly full. Pen drive in dell worked ok so its not likely the ports as tried them all. Any thoughts?
Ran malwarebytes and Avira as they had not been updated and run since last home.
XP on update 2, will get it up to 3 when she has all the Uniwork on disk
Connected to laser without turning on and bsod.
If I can't cure I'll have to give her the inkjet.
I've not downloaded the debugging tools from micr. yet as she wants to get all work etc off the computer first, just to be safe.

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

As soon as you can follow the instructions here and debug the dump file, although .....

On the face of it it sounds like a driver problem - I would uninstall all the Brother software & drivers - check for an updated driver at Brother and re-install.

How full? If you have less then 15% of space left as free space, this will start causing problems.

I'm guessing 1 gig or less out of 30 would be a possible cause. Even if this is not the cause a good cleanout is called for.

I'd start by cleaning & see if that fixes it.

Will do, trying to get a student to stand still long enough to say what can be removed is another matter though.
    Thanks for the help.

    For a start ....

    1. Clear out the temp files ....

Start > Run > &temp% > Enter - all files safe to delete although the odd one mat be in use.

C:\Windows\temp - empty - same rider as above.

    2. Empty temporary Internet files and set space available to 50 Mb - more than enough.

    3. System Properties > System Restore - 12% of drive by default - reduce

    4. Add/Remove Programs - apart from the obvious - remove programs not used or required - check for multiple incidences of Java. Updating Java leaves the old versions - and their security holes, intact. Latest is 14, remove all others.

    1-3 done,
only 1 Java running, not sure which one, removed other one.
Will reset the temp and restore amounts.
    Thanks.
