I have Windows XP on my computer with a dial-up connection to the internet. If I get a broadband connection and keep it on 24-7 will that make it easier for hackers to get into my computer? If so, is there a way to turn my broadband connection off before I turn off my computer? Thank you.

Turning the computer off will be all that's necessary to keep hackers out when you aren't using it. If you have any doubts and it is keeping you awake, unplug the modem!

The rest of the time, keep a good firewall in operation.
