    I have been with Bt Broadband for a couple of years now and just recently I fancied getting an internal ADSL modem to replace the Bt USB modem provided.I couldn't get the internal one to work though.I thought it would just be a case of installing the new modem and making sure it had the same settings as the USB modem.....I had it all set up the same but the new modem although showing that it had detected the active line wouldn't connect.Does Bt have some settings that I don't know about or should the internal modem work? :confused:

    Any help will be much appreciated. :)

    I just got this info from Bt Broadband help.......

    In order to fit an ADSL router (is this what they call a different modem from theirs? :confused: ) I have to put in the following settings:-

    VPI = 0
    VCI = 38
    Authentication = CHAP
    Encapsulation = VC MUX
    Modulation = G.DMT
    Encapsulation protocol = PPPoA

    Can anyone tell me where I would enter these settings please? (even more :confused: now) :eek:

    No, a router is designed to share a network connection with two or more networks. You will have seen them advertised heavily in the computer mags - Dabs, Misco, etc especially for wireless connections.

    You merely have an internal PCI modem as opposed to an external USB modem.

    Definition of a router here

    Have you tried reinstalling the BT software, ignoring the Speedtouch modem driver?

    Thanks Pete.....I managed to get it finally. :) I messed about with some things and I eventually discovered if I press Alt and C on the new modem's control panel I could set the protocols as specified by Bt and it's working now. :D
