I am a little confused by the "Startup" folder in "All Users" vs the one for each login ID. Logically, I expect the "All Users" to start those applications for any user that logs in. Once that is done then anything in the user specific startup will also be started.

In practice that does not seem to be the case (I only have one user who has administrator priviledges). Nothing in the specific users' startup is ever run. While everything in the "All Users" startup seems to work as expected except it runs as the specific user instead of administrator (maybe that is correct since I installed everything as that user).

Could someone explain to me how this is supposed to work? TIA.

Should work just as you've said. All Users for anyone logging on and specific user apps only for that user.

What, specifically, is failing to start for your user? And is that user part of a group with rights to start the app(s)? Needs at least execute permissions to the folder housing the exe.

Thanks for the reply. So far, anything I've put into the login users startup folder does not run on reboot/login.

I don't really know what rights the user has I should look for as it was all created by default on installation of XP. That user was created by the XP install as the administrator (all I supplied was the name and password). If there is something specific you need to know I can look it up.

As an aside, I also added my PPPoE connection to the "All Users" startup folder which also does not work. That is the first thing I've added in that folder that fails to run on reboot/login. I can see no difference between the settings for that and the settings for the stuff that does work. I also cannot find anyplace where there are any error messages (nothing in the event viewer logs).
