Hi people of WindowsBBS! New poster here and in need of help.
My pc boots fine, but just before the windows logo, I see a white dash on top left corner for about a second, then it disappears, and it boots into windows.

Now, I have checked the hdd, ram and ran a disk check. I'm using win7 home premium 64 bit, the oem version.

Any idea as to why this is happening?

    Thanks in advance. :)

Welcome to the site... Sounds normal to me.. You only have a problem when it doesn't make it past the blinking cursor.

Hi gunner87, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

Try this. Click Start< in the Start search box type systempropertiesadvanced and hit enter. The System Properties window will open on the Advanced tab. At the bottom under Startup and Recovery click on the Settings button.

Ensure the options look like the following screenshot that I have attached below. Once done click on Ok to save the changes and then reboot the computer.

I see a white dash in the same location of my Windows 7 PC, but it appears before the Dell logo is displayed. There have been times when the machine would not boot past the white dash, and come to find out, the system was hanging due to problems communicating with an attached USB drive (Kingston).

I removed the drive, rebooted, and all was normal again.

EDIT: Almost forgot. Welcome to the forum, gunner87. :)

Thanks for the replies guys.. Evan I did what you asked,, but made no difference. I'm going to run memtest later on to see if it is memory related.

If you enter your computers BIOS, make sure your hard drive is set as the first boot device and see if that helps.

The white dash (or multiple dashes) seem to be normal, and changing the boot order in the BIOS so that the hard drive containing the OS comes first makes no difference at all (on my system, anyway).

Update: In bios, Hard drive was set to boot first,, and in agreement with JSS3rd, it does seem to be normal,, system boots fine after all. Thank you all for the help. Have a good weekend everyone.
