:( HELP! I am running Windows XP Pro and the following is happening. When I bootup the system, either a warm or a cold boot, it shows the Windows Logo and immediately goes to perform CHKDSK on Drive "Câ€. It proceeds through all 5 steps, taking about 48 minutes, and then goes to the screen asking if I want to select "Safe Mode" but doesn’t allow me to make any selection when I attempt to. The up-down arrows do not allow me to select anything. It stays on the "Normal Windows Restart" selection and repeats the process over again! I have tried to boot from the Windows XP Pro CD but the system doesn’t attempt to boot from the CD. I can’t even get into my BIOS settings because the system doesn't respond allowing me to. Any suggestions are welcome. Thank You.

    HI

    Welcome to the BBS!

Sounds like your keyboard and mouse are both out. Does the keyboard flash at all during boot? If you have an Optical mouse is it lighting up?

    1. unlpug all USB devices except Kyboard and mouse something my be pulling to much USB voltage.

    2. unplug and replug, if USB plug to other USB ports.

    3. If above don't work and they are USB "and" if you have PS2 ports then get a PS2 keyboard and mouse to try borrow one from a friend if possible.

I doubt you will get up untill you can enter safe mode.

    Chkdsk, Boot, Loop

    Mike,
Immediately after I posted my dilemma on this board I connected a regular KB and rebooted. I don't know why I didn't do that sooner.
I was able to move the cursor on the "safe mode screen" and I selected to bootup using the "Last good setting" and immediately all went well. This PC is my wife's and she had a wireless mouse and KB. Your reply was right on!

Thanks for an accurate and quick reply.
