I would like to be able to boot with a floppy (Win98 or XP) a laptop and load a driver so I may use a USB CD ROM. The specific drive is a USB Plexstor CD RW. Plexstor says it can not be done.

Should I keep looking or give up and punt??

    USB requires W32 support.

After saying that I will add that there might be a floppy bootable linux micro kernal that could be configured to do it - but why bother.

    Plextor knows best.

I tried the Cypress drivers with a Win98 bootable disk and it looked like it was going to load, it recognized the Plexstor drive. Then got an error about a bad command.com. I found a real 6.2 DOS diskette and tried that and got the same error (???). I REMed out the line in the CONFIG.SYS file and DOS loaded fine, did a VER command and sure enough it was 6.2.

Downloaded the other Cypress package for the various Windows OSs and tried several of the drivers without success.
