Hi there: Just installed XP last weekend. I use Net 7 as my browser. Everything went fairly well except my address book didn't come over with the install and all my saved bookmarks don't show up. I have to go to manage bookmarks, tools, import, find them and then they will be there, but only for the session. Next time I log on to the net I have to retrieve them again. Also, any bm that I add are not there - only the ones I had before upgrading to XP. What can I do? Thanks.

    Hi hamburgerpatty,

Your Bookmarks file may be corrupt.
Close Netscape, and Quick Launch, if enabled:

    Navigate to the *.slt folder
    ~\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\xxxxxxxx.slt

Rename the bookmarks.html file to Xbookmarks.html
    Open Netscape
A pristine copy of bookmarks.html will be created
To ensure that the new file is working, add a bookmark
If this works, then open the Bookmark Manager
    Click on Tools | Import
    Import the renamed (Xbookmarks.html) file.
    Your bookmarks should be recreated.

    HTH,

    Ramona :D

Thanks for the instructions - I'm terrible at fiddling with things on my puter :) I did what you wrote, but when I right clicked the file to rename it, the name showed only as bookmark, so I typed in Xbookmark. I was not successful in getting the file to regenerate. Should I have added the .html? I must say I'm afraid of loosing the file somehow and don't want to mess up. Thanks!!!!

    Hi hamburgerpatty,

Your files are still hidden, and that's why you can't see the extension on your bookmarks file. To view hidden files do this:

    1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options
    2. Click the View tab
    3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders

Back up your Profiles folder before editing, and there is no risk involved. Your Bookmarks will not be lost.

You can refer to this page if you get lost:
    Bookmarks File is Corrupt.
