I seemed to have lost a considerable number of bookmarks on my Mozilla Firefox.

Can any one advise me how I might be able to retrieve these.

Lost when installing new FF and importing old bookmarks? Accidentally deleted bookmarks? Your FF profile folder should have a directory with bookmark backups. Open those in the browser & see if your missing bookmarks are in any of those pages.

Lost Bookmarks

Thank you for your response. It is appreciated.

I found these 'backed up' addresses in a folder which I understand is automatically backed up each time a new bookmark is added.

Had to do this on a one at a time basis.

Thanks once again Tony T

Have a nice day

The past five days' Bookmarks file are, automatically backed up, and are dated.
Not sure what this means.

Bookmarks

Thank you Westside for your interest.

I was looking for more than five days but possibly two years of bookmarks.

What I meant by having to do one at a time is that I could not reinstall the 'lost' ones en mass and so had to do each one individually.

If you look in 'my documents', 'my Web Favourites you will see what I mean.

Thanks once again. :)

Not sure what happened to you, but if I read correctly your post, you lost your bookmarks more than five days before, and did not realize it. From way back, even before bookmarks were, automatically, backed up, I was backing up my Bookmarks.html file, periodically and manually.. I don't have any
, so I can't relate.
And, the bookmarks files are backed up daily, but only the last five days' are saved. Since my bookmarks files are not changed that often, I, manually, delete those which are not changed. In other words, human intervention is needed, although it would be nice if there was a way to avoid backing files which were not changed. But, I don't know how to do it, automatically.

Bookmarks

Hi Westside

Microsoft XP / MFF does it automatically and dumps into "my web Favourites (MYF)" in 'My Documents each time a NEW bookmark is introduced.

I actually lost some bookmarks on the day I started a thread, but I have had bookmarks for at least 4years in MFF and before that in ME.

Every time you place a new bookmark into MFF this is copied into MYF.

Thanks for your comments

Beg your Pardon. But, would you mind explaining what MFF and MYF and ME stand for.

I'm sorry but, I don't know as I'm still learning and I would like to know how these backup bookmark files get created.

Thanks, Ray

Hi Old Chief

MFF is short for Mozilla Fire Fox

Should read MWF and is short for My Web Favourites (English Spelling)

ME is short for Microsoft Explorer.

It is just me being a little lazy in some respect.

Let me first start by apologising to The Old Chief, Westside and Tony T.

I appear to have misled you all. You see I am a what they call a "Gerry Attrick" so to speak and a 'mature' person.

To save and update your list of 'bookmarks' you need to first of all create a NEW folder in MY Documents such as 'My Web Bookmarks' or whatever.
:D
Once created go into the Mozilla Firefox web page and follow these instructions to save these bookmarks to the newly created folder.

Bookmarks, Organize, Import and Backup, Export HTML and then SAVE IN, to the folder you have created.

Sorry once again for the confusion which only leaves me to say, 'have a nice day'.

Aren't we all? I am 76, but I can still learn a few tricks.
As for my abbreviations: FF=Firefox. Not sure what "Microsoft Explorer" is. Is what is, generally, called IE=Internet Explorer? As for Web Favourites, I have no clue what they are. I, surely, don't have such thing. Are they derived from Internet Explorer? If so, I, never, use IE, intentionally, so that's may be why. I rely, strictly, on my Firefox bookmarks.
But, it depends, a lot, on how one does things.
