Using Firefox 9.2, with several thousand bookmarks (in hundreds of categorized folders), I infrequently experience erratic runaway scrolling through the folders, which can only be stopped by moving the cursor to the bookmark up or down arrows opposite to the direction of the runaway scrolling, and sometimes but not always this simply reverses the direction of the runaway scrolling. What stops the runaway scrolling is indeterminate, as is what starts it.

Anyone know how to resolve this madness?

    keywester,

To the best of my knowledge there is no fix yet. There is a bug #156942, which has yet to be resolved.

It happens to me too using Mozilla 1.7.x, on occasion, annoying, but infrequent.

Thanks Ramona, sorry if I missed that info elsewhere.

A digression - you indicated that you used Mozilla 1.7x, and from what I can gather, that appears that it might be something like a combination of the firefox browser and the tbird email components? Or is it completely different? Which is better? Can I have all three installed at once to try it out without any complications?

    keywester,

Firefox is built on the Mozilla codebase, and as to which is better depends on whether you prefer a standalone browser, and Mail client or a suite which combines the two.

You can run all three side by side with no problems. Firefox and Mozilla place their Profiles in different folders, so there is no problem with one or the other picking up the wrong Profile.

Take a look at the Mozilla and Firefox FAQ for a clearer picture of all:
    http://texturizer.net/firefox/faq.html
    http://texturizer.net/thunderbird/faq.html
    http://www.mozilla.org/start/1.5/faq/

Even tho Mozilla FAQ indicate 1.5, they still apply to the current Version 1.7.2.
