    My problems are the following.
    1. When I add new bookmarks they won´t be there when I restart Netscape.
    2. When I delete bookmarks they will be back when I restart Netscape.

I tried changing the name of bookmarks.html to Xbookmarks and then restarting Netscape. After restart there is a new bookmark file. I imported the old file. Everything looks good, but when I restart Netscape the old bookmarks ain´t there.

    What can I do?

    Welcome to the Forum, Sperto!

    Sperto,

When you renamed the Bookmarks file, Netscape and Quick Launch were closed, right? Before importing the entire bookmarks, did you first add one bookmark, close and restart Netscape? Was that bookmark retained? What version of Netscape are you using?

You obviously don't have a backup of the bookmarks.html file, so other than what I suggested I know of no other workaround.

Firefox 0.10.1 makes an automatic backup of the Bookmarks file, which is a new feature. I believe this feature is also included in Mozilla 1.8 Alpha 4.

    Bookmarks

    I´m using Netscape 7.1.

    I have done like this.
    1. I close Netscape and quick launch.
    2. I rename the file to Xbookmarks.
    3. Restart and open Netscape. There is an empty bookmarks file. I add two new bookmarks.
    4. Restart and open Netscape. The two last bookmarks are still there.
    5. I open Bookmarks manager and import Xbookmarks. All my old bookmarks are there including the two last ones.
    6. Next time I open Netscape there are only the two last bookmarks.

Unfortunately I don´t have an backup.

If there is something wrong with the old file, what can I do about that? I´m not happy about making several hundred bookmarks over again.

    Solution

Sorry for making people upset for posting my question at other forum as well.

Anyway, you might be interested in how the problem was solved.

In the .SLT folder I had files named bookmarks-1.html, bookmarks-2.html... until bookmarks-9999.html. I deleted all of these and now it´s working fine.

I was not upset a bit. I was poijnting out that you had answer. But, you may find that some of the same people are trying to answer the question posed. If you post on the same subject, your messages may be ignored. Give a bit of time.
Good that you solved the problem, but I never had any extra bookmarks.html files. I guess that each one handles things differently. You must have, repeatedly, deleted the bookmarks files. It is the same with mail account, where you have numbers like -1, -2, etc when the account is removed, and then readded. I learned something from this, although I would never do thingsthis way.
