Speedway - Welcome to the Board :)

What program detected Bit387.tmp? It does not appear to be a threat, merely a temp file which may have been in use when you attempted to remove (how?)

    Was a file path given?

Before we get our trained Spyware, etc people involved - they are always overloaded, I suggest you delete your Temporary Files.

You did not post your Operating System - I will assume XP ....

    Start > Run > type in %temp% > Enter.

The files contained in the Explorer window which opens are safe to delete. As noted above one or two may be in use and cannot be deleted at this time.

    Hi Speedway,

When you open %temp%, or a folder within it, are there many of these Bit???.tmp files? Those files are generally created by an application using the BITS service to download something in the background while you work. If you are not downloading Windows Updates or something else legitimately via BITS, there may be an infection present using BITS.

You can temporarily disable the BITS service if needed until we verify and clean out the infection, if present. Click Start>Run and type or paste the following command on the Run line then hit enter.

    sc stop BITS

Then follow it with this next command.

    sc config BITS start= disabled

It's best to copy the commands and paste them in.
