ok As you may know I have an old old old PC and it has the basic BIOS that has allways had on it I was wondering if there is any software that can find out my current BIOS version and check to see if there is and updates and if there is update the BIOS.

If there isn't then darn if there is then please tell me.

The version of your BIOS should be shown on the POST screen and if you know the make and model no. of your motherboard a trip to their website should provide the necessary information about available updates - you may have to dig into their archives :)

If all of the above information is not available try Everest which will give you, amongst other info, motherboard info (if recognised) and the BIOS details, with links for updating - I have not used these so cannot say how/if they work.

When you first turn on your pc and see the POST screen, you can hit the Pause/Break key to get the screen to pause. You can then write down the BIOS info...

    Hi, Elite.

Hopefully this will work for you: Belarc Advisor

After you download Belarc Advisor, install it. When it finishes installing, it should automatically open up your web browser with a page full of details, including your motherboard/BIOS info in the "Main Circuit Board" section of its report.

Belarc Advisor won't update your BIOS for you. You will probably have to go to your motherboard manufacturer's website to get any updated BIOS versions for your particular motherboard.
