Novice here: Trying to learn about optional boot methods, I got in the BIOS and found different ways to boot. My 5 yr. old Gateway 450sx4 laptop has 5 option. (I think that's what they are)

    1. CD-ROM/DVD-ROM
    2. Removable Device
    3. Hard Drive
    4. 2nd Hard Drive
    5. Boot to LAN

1st us self-explan, 2nd I hope means like a thumb drive? 3rd is my standard way, 4th is (hopefully) a 60G HDD external I have? but I don't understand what is 'boot to LAN which I think is a Local Area Network? How would you 'boot' to that?

I'm surprised there's no 'floppy' there. Maybe it's included in the cd-rom insert thing which I can switch out for another insert that holds a floppy.?

    bios boot seletion

That is an old puter u have. If u have an "A" drive then I believe the removeable selection in the bios is probably it. On the other hand, if your notebook has one of those floppy "insert" things that would fit?
    Lan is local area network:D
