I press DEL key to get into Bios. (motherboard Asus). I then go to Boot device priority. The order is DVD ROM then floppy drive, then C drive.
The options are select screen, select item, change option, general help and
save and exit. There is also a note that says a device enclosed in parenthesis has been disabled in the corresponding menu.
All three options DVD, Floppy, And C drive have parenthesis.

I wanted to change the order to DVD ROM, C drive, and last floopy drive.

I then get to change the boot order:

DVD, Floppy, C drive to C, DVD, floppy or Floppy, C, DVD

I wanted it to be DVD, C, Floppy but couldn't get that option for boot order.

What do you recommend for boot order? The current order is DVD, Floppy, C

    Hi Alicia,
Does it really matter? With your boot order the machine should boot from 'C' if there is no DVD or floppy in place. It does on my mobo anyway, there should be a BIOS setting that says something like "Try other boot devices" to disable or enable.

    Hi Roger,

Normally, no. It would however if you couldn't get into the BIOS to change the boot order to primary flopyy/CD and have a chance at booting with the OS cd.

But Charles, surely an HD failure won't stop you getting into the BIOS, or am I missing something?

Hi Roger, no you're not missing anything, the BIOS is on a chip, not the HD.

Its just that I've seen a number of posts where BIOS access was a problem and keeping the CD as the primary is a form of insurance.

    Regards - Charles
