    Hi,
My wife and I each a have Win 7 PC sharing a router to the internet.
I have managed to set up a shared Homegroup but we can only share files that are in the Libraries.
How can I set up the networking so that we can both access ALL files on BOTH the computers ?

many thanks for any help you can offer.

    Graham

Access to all files on all computers is insecure. I realize it's very unlikely that some criminal will sit down at your computer and steal the wife's files, or vice versa, but one computer could get infected with a virus or malware which could potentially infect the other computer is said computer has access to all files on the other.

That being said, to do what you want, ditch the Homegropup and setup regular file sharing, the share what you want by accessing the sharing tab of the drive or directory properties window.

    Hi TonyT

many thanks for your helpful comment - I have done as you suggested and made a simple file share - it works well.
We have both PC's protected by anti-virus and malware so hopefully we will be ok.

The thread is not YET resolved because I now find that many folders will not transfer from one PC to another as I wish to do.

I understand that this is to do with permissions because I keep getting error messages that " You do not have permission to move this file "

Do I need to access EVERY file and EVERY folder to change permissions or is there a GLOBAL way to change permissions for all files and folders ?

    Thanks

    Graham

For the directories you want to share, you must access permissions and set read-write (full) access for the user.

To globally do this, create an administrator user account on wife's computer with your username and password, then vice-versa. Again, I stress my first comments above.
