    Hi folks,

I gave my in-laws my old computer (P-3/1Ghz), reformatted with XP. Hooked up their DSL modem and got connected via Earthlink. But, I have found that the connection occassionally disappears and you have to reboot to get it back. It often happens when I am trying to download something. I am getting OK download speeds but then the download just stops and dies.

    Any suggestions? Thanks, Lar

First thing to do. Shut down the PC then the Modem. Then turn the modem back on and when it settles down (about a minute or so) turn the PC back on and see if it happens still. Did he put the filters on the phones like he should have and not on the Modem? If he did, have him call his ISP and they can look into the Modem remotely and check it.
