The 'lox' was just an ad hook; :D
I got a Bagle infected e-mail from my sister-in-law last week which Norton caught and dealt with. When I told my brother-in-law about it he ran a scan which turned up nothing. My question is how does Bagle work to access their mail addresses and send out infected e-mails without infecting their confuser?

They may need to update the AV, there are different versions of it. A firewall would be a good idea, it would stop Bagle from getting out.
If it is running on their system, they are infected.
It may not have been from them in the first place, the FROM address is spoofed. It could have came from someone you both know, and this person has you both in their address book.
