I know that WinXP should do backups to a CD but my wife just bought a DELL with HDs and a CD/RW drive; no zip and no floppy.

I need to know how I can backup to a CD from Quicken without going to the trouble of drag/drop from the directory to the CD

When doing the backup, does Quicken has the option to Save As and point to the CD?

Quicken does give me the option of selecting the destination of the backup. However, when I point to the CD, nothing happens

It won't - you must burn to CD using burning software which Quicken does not activate - at least not in Quicken 2000.

Quicken makes it's own backups to disk automatically. Either burn that to CD or make a specific backup to a location on your hard drive and burn to CD.

The only way you can back up directly to a cdr or cdrw is if you have packet writing software installed and running. This would be something like Nero's InCD or Roxio's Direct CD (think they've changed the name but I don't remember what it is). Do you have either of them installed?

    Thanks for the replies

I've decided to install a second HD in her computer and backup to that. It's the easiest and, since I have a couple of HDs, the cheapest.
