I use Windows ME and saw a question - What's the quickest way to make backups of the registry without typing any dos commands or installing a third party utility? The answer given was: To create a registry backup in Windows 98/98SE/Me, use Start - Run and enter the following command: scanregw /backup.

I tried this and got a warning that there was no File - Registry backup*. So I just typed scanregw and it immediately put a backup file in Windows\SYSBCKUP, but it was not called "backup" but simply rb003. Then using Start - Run again I re-typed scanregw/backup but still got the same answer as * above (presumably because as stated it is not called "backup "?)

Thus can I assume that if one was about to modify the Registry file the requisite action is to first Start>Run> type scanregw then if anything goes wrong double click the most recent backup (which in the previous example would have been rb003?). I seem to remember many years ago the thing to do was to type 'Regedit' or was it 'Regsave' but am a bit hazy on this!

    Kind regards,
    Pat
