I have a problem with a program named Desktop Search. I am unable to remove it from the desktop. It comes up when ever the unit is booted. My attempts to locate the file in my Startup menus has failed. What else can I do?

I've also had other AutoRun problems that have been a problem on and off.

On startup Windows XP comes up and an error box appears the message indicates that a non-responding program was trying to run when Windows was terminating. the message has a file name "ohpakqi.exe"
What is this program and what can I do about it?

jonesJ - Welcome to the Board :)

Desktop Search is most likely Google's Desktop Search which presumably you downloaded and installed at some time, either deliberately or as the result of a Google prompt. You should find it in Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.
Would you confirm the spelling of this - nothing comes up on a Google search which is always a little worrying.
    Can you be more specific?

Do you have antivirus software installed and fully up to date and a Firewall - Windows - in XP SP1 the Windows firewall is OFF by default and in SP2 ON by default - or a third party Firewall.

Have you scanned your computer for spyware, etc. A good start point is to download and install Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta, update it immediately. MSAS constantly monitors your computer for spyware, autoscans and auto updates. It is Freeware.

Back this up by running Ad-Aware SE and Spybot (download through Quicklinks in my signature and immediately update) and with a degree of permanent protection with SpywareBlaster 3.4 - again update this and 'Enable all protection'.
