    Hello everyone!!

I am currently running WinXP and I have a video capture board hooked to my cable line. Every time I want to record a show, I have to go into the volume control (double-click on the speaker), click file / properties / recording... THEN I have to set the "line in" level so I don't get distortion when I record.
For some reason, EVERY time I want to record something (wether it be from the capture card, or something connected directly to my line-in,) windows always sets the record level of the line-in to maximum, which in turn makes the audio distort badly, making the recording unusable... The signal is simply waay to hot.
So - Is there a way I can set the line-input level, and "lock" it in that position, so that Windows, or any third-party app cannot change it??
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is getting very annoying... Thanks!!

    Hi Donnie,

If this were happening to me I would look over the settings in the app you're using, or maybe see if there's something configurable in the hardware.

Other than that, why not turn the volume down on the camcorder or whatever external device is supplying the signal? You did say this issue came up using line-in with the sound recorder settings, right?

    Hope this helps.

    Marty

    Hi, Donniesito ~

Make sure you are utilizing the master volume controls and assure you are using the right mixer device:
    • 'Control Panel' > 'Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices' > 'Sounds and Audio Devices'
    • 'Sounds and Audio Devices Properties' window > 'Volume' tab
    • Under 'Device volume' section, click 'Advanced' button
    • 'Master Volume' window > 'Options' > 'Properties'
    • Under 'Show the following volume controls:', select 'Line In'
    • Go up to 'Mixer device' and select the proper device from the drop-down box
    • Under 'Adjust volume for:', select 'Recording' > 'OK'
Also, you may want to enable Advanced Controls if your sound card supports it:
    • 'Options' > 'Properties' > 'Advanced Controls'
