When I send an email in Outlook and attach a Word document, it attempts to open in another application (Adobe Photohop) and of course Photoshop states it cannot open the document. I was not having this problem in the past and have no idea why it attempts to open a Word document in Photoshop nor how to correct it.

Do you mean on your machine, or on the receiving machine?

    Outlook attachment problem

It opens okay on the desktop. The problem is only sending as an attachment on email. I've been trying to find a menu choice that let's me choose which program to open with.

Right click on a file, and click on "Open With... ".
    It'll give you all choices.
Once you pick up Word from the list, don't forget to put a checkmark into a box "Always open...etc. ".

ALL of the Word files are using Photoshop to open with when sending by email. I went to Windows Explorer, right clicked on that particular file, and clicked on 'Open With'. When I clicked on Word, it opened the file. There was no place to put a checkmark. When the file is an attachment to an email, right clicking doesn't give me an option to 'Open With.' It only shows 'Open' and that triggers Photoshop.

You have to SAVE file FIRST, then right click it.

    Sure, there is:

When you set that file association right, it'll open with Word, even from within your mail.

I have been saving Word files for years with the .doc extension, so I am aware the file has to be saved first. I have been sending them for years without a problem. This problem started with one particular Word file that I attached to an email. I then discovered that whatever Word file I attached to the email would attempt to open in Adobe Photoshop. There is apparently a general preference setting somewhere that has gotten messed up, but I have no idea where.

You have FILE ASSOCIATION messed up for some reason, and I just told you, how to fix it.
If you want to use some other way, go ahead, but I can't help you, because I don't know of any other way.

I found it. When I clicked on Save File as you instructed, a choice came up for Microsoft Word, and I clicked on that. The one I should have clicked on was "Choose File" and then a choice was offered for Word and then the check mark box you are referring to. That did it. Thank you so much for staying with me on this. It always ends up being something simple. Thank you all for replying to this problem. It can be so frustrating to run into something like this. Thank God for you experts.
