Using 7.1 Mail, we have encountered a problem yet to be solved. Namely, attachments are sent in-line as opposed to as attachemnts. This seems independent of the type document attached. No setting changes seem to affect this. Reinstalling works for a week or so, then back to in-line!
    Any help appreciated.

    Welcome to the Forum, Kerma!

    Hi Kerma,

Check in about:config, and see if this setting has a Value of "true ":
    mail.inline_attachments

    To view this setting:
    Clear the Location Bar
    Next: Type about:config

    In the "Filter" Bar
    Type: attachments

Let us know what you find.

    Kerma,

The BBS software, for reasons unknown to me, inserts an unwanted space:

    Type in: "about:config"
There is NO space between "about" and the colon ( : ).

I see that placing the quotation marks around about:config keeps the string together - OR - Arie did his magic....

    Well that worked!
mail.inline_attachments showed "user set ", "boolean ", and
    "false "

Not sure I know how to locate "filter bar "

    Does this help?

    Hi Kerma,

What you need to do now, is access the setting once again.
Highlight, then right click the setting
    mail.inline_attachments
    Select: Modify
Change the "false" to "true "

Actually "true" is the default setting, so I'm not sure why the setting isn't being retained. This setting will also be reflected in your prefs.js file. Hopefully this will be permanent.

Oh yes, the Filter is a Mozilla feature, and not implemented in Netscape 7.1. Sorry!

Let us know if you have any further problems.

    Hello Romona

Life is not good. This change does not work and seems backwards? I flushed and reloaded 7.1 and all badness stays the same. Also I note with mail.inline_attachments set to true that after sending the file it cannot copy to the sent folder! I am at a loss. I have several other machines with exactly the same systems and there is no problem. clearly some default is changing. By the way the prefs.js file has no setting set for attachments?

Perhaps I need to clean Netscape and all subcomponents off the system preserving the address list and bookmarks and try again?

    Hi Kerma,

I agree, that something is definitely haywire, no doubt you have corruption somewhere. Reinstalling Netscape will have no effect, as it is the Profile that is corrupt. What will help is to create a new Profile. See this page: Create a New Profile.

Back up your entire Profiles folder before you begin.

Ramona: I tried to do what you told
Kerma about modifying in the about:config. When I highlight by right or left click I get a BLACK line thru the
    setting completely across the screen.
There is no way to select modify. Is
about:config set to read only somewhere.

    Probably something simple:eek:

As in the past, you'll have the solution.

    Hi Joe,

This feature isn't available in Netscape 7.0. In the 7.0 Release there was no Option for View | Display Attachments Inline.

You can try adding the script to your prefs.js file, altho some users reported that it didn't work for them:

    Close Netscape and Quick Launch
Back up your prefs.js file before editing!
    To disable viewing Inline:
    user_pref( "mail.inline_attachments ", false);

Ramona: In my last post, I was asking about "about:config" in general. If you read it, the black line appears whenever
I select any setting and cannot find
"modify" or any other way to change the
    setting. Joe

    Hi joeskys,

I wasn't very clear was I! The ability to edit settings in about:config is not available in Netscape 7.0. You have to edit your preferences via the prefs.js file.
That's why you get the black line.

The ability for the user to edit preferences in about:config wasn't available until Netscape 7.1, and Mozilla 1.4.
