A friend who uses AOL and W98 claims that if someone sends him an email via OE, and there is more than one addressee listed in the 'TO' section, and he's not the first person listed, and, the addressees are separated by a semi-colon instead of a comma, AOL will not recognize any addressee after the first one. Or more simply, AOL doesn't recognize semi-colons, only commas, to separate email addressees.

So, if he's second or third addressee on an email I send him, and I use a semi-colon to separate the addressees, he won't get it.

That's his claim. Is this true? Or, does he have some other problem?

P.S. Sorry for the wordy problem description....

It must be a problem on his end because using a semi-colon to separate addresses is Outlook Express's default method. That means all mail sent by Outlook or Outlook Express users sending to more than one address will probably have them separated by a semi-colon.

AOL's email protocol is arguably the worst on the planet although I read recently AOL is planning to implement something a little more compatible with the rest of the world's email. Perhaps when, or if, they do, AOL users' email problems will finally be resolved.

Miz ... thanks for your response. He would argue that OE is the email system AOL uses and so it can't be AOL's email protocol.
