A few weeks ago I installed DirectX 8.0a, and ever since then my Monitor is acting up. On message boards for example, the forum title bars (see 1 on attached pic) cause the sides of the screen (2) to shrink inward towards the center. In other words, the sides of the screen are "warped ", for lack of a better description.

Also, occaissionally, it seems like the monitor is trying to switch resolutions when it isn't supposed to be. The relay clicks and the screen shrinks momentarily, then goes back to normal again. It may be a coincidence, and actually have nothing to do with DirectX at all. I may have just not noticed it before. Or it could be a corrupt driver. A friend of mine says the power supply, or one of the projection guns might be going out. I don't know. But it sure is annoying... And I think I may need a new monitor.

    Any comments?

I'm not really sure if it's your monitor or not but you can eliminate the question as to whether or not it's the direct x that is causing it by downloading directx buster . Run the file and you'll be rid of it. Do you have a friend who you could borrow a monitor from to see if it does the same thing?

    Hi Ax Slinger,
Zander is right, the first step is to eliminate DX8.0a. I've read a number of articles condeming the short comings of this MS update. Before Zander's post I was unaware of any method to remove it short of a complete format and reinstall. If this utility works, then it will save you consideralbe headaches.

Well, Duh... You know, some days I wonder about myself. Why do simple solutions not occur to me, when they are as plain as the nose on my face? Yes, I do have other monitors in my house that I can hook up and see if it does the same thing. I will now smack myself in the head for not thinking of that.

I have that DirectX Buster program as well, but have never tried it. If it isn't the monitor, I'll give it a try.

But now maybe you understand why after nearly 20 years of working on computers, I say I am "Technologically Impaired "...
