Winzip.com is one. XP comes with it's own compressor. But, they can only do so much..

This is one of those questions where the answer is Yes... But!

It is possible to compress video to very small files indeed, it's just a matter of finding and using the right codec... and how much image degradation you're willing to accept.
With video you can compress to a certain degree and have almost DVD quality picture (have a look at the DivX and XviD codecs), but after that you have a clear relationship between filesize and picture quality i.e the harder you compress the more blocky and pixillated the picture gets and more colorinformation is lost...

Game files can be compressed by using tools such as WinZip (the most common), WinRAR (not as common as WinZip, but more efficient) or WinAce (was the most efficient but is rarely used).
However the data density in the files to be compressed will affect how much compression you can get (see further down).

Compression is based on pattern repetition and blank space in files... i.e. files with lots of blank space and long patterns repeated often compress better than files without blanks and many and short patterns.
A common text file or Word document would compress better than for instance a video file or compiled executable.

Besides if you download games or demos from the net, they're already compressed in some way so you'll gain nothing or very little from recompressing. And you'll only increase - not decrease - filesizes if you try to first RAR-compress a file and then ACE-compress it.

You're not very specific about filesizes and storage capacity so I can't say "This will work" or "This won't work ". But I can say you won't be able to pack a full CD of a game onto a 32 or 64MB usb drive.

Most of the software mentioned here is shareware, so you'll have a chance to test it to see if it fulfills your needs.
