I live in a retirement community and devote some time to
their PC club (helping fix their PC's).

Several times a week, I see this problem appear on a PC that
is brought into the club by older people, who know very little
about PC's and nothing about how to fix a computer. Most have
already clicked on the virus found window.

I see some good info here about software that will fix PC's
    having this problem.

My question is: Who is putting out this software and if in the
US what can (or is) being done to eliminate the problem
    all togeather??

    thanks,
    savagcl

    Hi Clif :)

Who? Primarily comes out of the Russian Federation, like much of today's malware. A bit of info regarding 'who' here.

Note yet another self-touted removal tool here (not recommended by me to use ;) ). Scroll down to manual removal instructions and you will find a recommendation to remove 2 legitimate, required system files.

    shlwapi.dll
    wininet.dll

    ROFL

Currently, the best recommendation for self removal is MBAM (Malwarebytes Anti-Malware). If problems persist after running MBAM, I recommend seeking help from one of the many help forums available, WindowsBBS Malware and Virus Removal forum included.
