Resolved Another iTunes problem!

Restarted computer and left for the day, and when I returned and started iTunes it was empty - no music!
It appears to be the same version 7.3.1.3 but it now has a sliding panal at the bottom trying to get me to upgrade to version 8.
I figure I can reload my music from the itunes directory, but what caused this? It's the 2nd time in 6 mos this happened.

 

Reloaded the music, but everything that I've edited (which is a ton) now only has a name and must be sorted through (again). What is this?
Anyone else have this, or a similar problem?
I'm wondering if it's just better to dump iTunes. It's literally hours and hours of work putting the music back together.

Yes

That really sounds like a strange problem. I would not have any idea why it does that. I have iTune on only one of my computers. Its used to reset or update my iPods only. I load them using a third party program.

Are you using iTunes strictly to load you iPods?
