I hear the next version of Netscape will be based on Mozilla 1.4

Mozilla 1.4b is now out, so the stable release can't be far away. So when? Who knows?

And further on? Mozilla is fragmenting into the Firebird Browser and the Thunderbird Email Client - will that leave an integrated Netscape stranded?

    What do you know, Ramona?

    Hi Labarum,

Unfortunately, I am not "in the loop ". The Netscape Newsgroups are the best source of information about the upcoming Netscape 7.1. Here are three Netscape 7 Threads which cover the subject extensively:

    http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=b6t234$4nq1@ripley.netscape.com
    snews://secnews.netscape.com:563/b73ocj$s847@ripley.netscape.com
    snews://secnews.netscape.com:563/b8pnmk$7o10@ripley.netscape.com

    Jay Garcia says:
The next full release of Netscape will be v7.1 (Buffy) which will be based on Mozilla 1.4 (Educated Guess).

When is not yet known, but first rumored to be Summer. Since Mozilla 1.4b was released so recently, it will most likely be Fall before we see the final release of Netscape 7.1. After Version 7.1 it is said that there will only be maintenance releases for Netscape 7.xx.

As to Firebird//Thunderbird, and again from Jay:
How long do think it would take for fire bird and thunderbird to be ready for the big show.

A Full Public ONE POINT OH release

That's the extent of my knowledge to date. You may have also read that there is a problem with the naming of
    Firebird:
Mozilla will drive a used Thunderbird

Another good source of information would be the Mozillazine.org Forums.

    No it will not.

This question has been asked several times over at mozillazine, and the reply is that they are going to be able to be either installed alone or integrated together.

They are also planning and are in the beginning stages of making Composer a seperate app also.

What has been said in the Mozilla Roadmap is that it will ship with everything and the user can uninstall whatever they do not want once they have installed it.

BTW, the date they are shooting for the final release of Mozilla 1.4 is May 21st. If there are no major problems, then they should meet that date.

They have already frozen the Mozilla Trunk (means that no new features are being added, just straight bug hunting of what is already there).

I never did understand the fight over the Firebird name. There are a bunch of software products using Firebird in its name out there. Not to mention a little thing General Motors calls the Pontiac Firebird.
