    I have a Dell XPS 400 with 512 MB of PC2-5300/667mhz 240 pin DDR2 64x64 ram installed in dimm slot 1 (256) and slot 3 (256).
Iwould like to install 1GB of additional ram (512 and 512). The question I have should I install the ram as follows:
    Dimm 1 512
    Dimm 2 256
    Dimm 3 512
    Dimm 4 256
or does it matter how the memory is installed?

It matters if your mobo uses "dual channel."

Are the slots colored differently? (maybe yellow and blue) If so, the 256 sticks should be in one color and the 512 in the other.
