Active x with Firefox?

Lately I seem to be stumbling across more and more sites that work only in IE. This isn't that bad when I know the site works in IE--I just click on my IE View extension. But it can be a pain if I "m not sure what the problem is.

I know that there is an extension that works with Firefox to play WMP when it is embedded on a web page (that seems to require active x), but the "read me" says that active x controls for anything else are disabled, and I'm rather leary about figuring out how to make active x work for everything else and typing in the code.

Does anyone here know of any program that I can install that will enable Firefox to run active x so that I can see all the windows and progs that should be running? I know that this might appear to fly in teh face of everything that Firefox stands for, but my monthly spyware scans are almost always negative, so I "m thinking I will be ok if I monitor closely the active x controls and run spyware blaster.

    Thanks.

This question, and the accompanying assumption has come up repeatedly.
And, I have yet to see a site which caused me problems, or, specifically, indicated that Active X is necessary. But, if you are convinced, take a look at this link .
and, make sure that you read the top disclaimer, in news.
And, please, give some links, if you are sure that Active X is vital. In my experience, it has been the website which effectively blocked browser without IE engine.

Yeah Westside, that was the extension I was talking about. The newest release of it creates a whitelist that forces you to enter sites/occasions where active x is enabled. I'd rather manipulate controls for active x (such as IE has), than have to customize this for every new site I come across (if I'm understanding the author correctly).

I have simply used "active x" as a blanket term meaning "whatever it is that allows IE to work when Firefox won't." In forums, the usual explanation for this phenomenon is that IE uses active x. Obviously, if the site itself simply won't run at all on anything not IE, then even this tweak wouldn't work.

At any rate, here is teh latest site I came across yesterday. http://www.accuradio.com/# Even with popup access allowed, this still won't work.

    Paul,

If you read the fine print on the AccuRadio site, it says:

Yes I saw that, Ramona. Of course, one never knows what exactly they mean by it, as occasionally Firefox does fine on sites that use language like this.

I did more than one thing. I first sent a feedback, asking to consider not blocking the players. With Firefox, at least, I see the player, but it does nothing. However, the site is accessible, and if look at the fine print, it say for Mac and Firefox users to click on a link. The link will allow one to play a few "stations" with an external mp3 player. I don't care for any of them, but I am listening to it with Winamp. http://accuradio.com/mp3/default.htm
But, the selection is limited, from what I can see. This is another case where Active X would not help, simply because they are using an internal player.
